Man arrested after two people saved from Telford house fire

A man has been arrested after two people had to be saved from a house fire in Telford.

The fire, at a house in Sunningdale, Hadley, broke out just before 2.30am today and two occupants were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

West Mercia Police said it is treating the fire as suspicious and arrested a man in his 30s from Telford on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He is currently being interviewed by detectives at Telford Police Station.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "The force is investigating after a fire at a house in Telford in the early hours of today.

Police search nearby playing fields after the fire in the early hours of this morning.

"The fire, at an address in Sunningdale, Hadley, was reported to police just before 2.30am. Two occupants were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. At this time police are treating the fire as suspicious and investigations are ongoing.

"A man in his 30s, from the Telford area, has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is currently at Telford police station.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area, or has any information, they are asked to contact us."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said two crews attended the incident and two people were rescued using a ladder before crews arrived.

Once at the scene, crews used two jets to put out the blaze.
