Councillors from Shropshire Council's north planning committee decided to grant planning permission for a new shop in Cheshire Street yesterday.

At the meeting held in Shirehall, Shrewsbury, Market Drayton councillor John Stuart Cadwallader raised concerns of the town council about the outdoor seating at the shop.

He said: "The seating could be disruptive on Wednesday's market days and prove an obstruction."

Karen Townsend, principle planning officer, said she would amend one of the conditions to make sure there was no outdoor seating on a Wednesday to safeguard the surrounding amenities and protect the area occupied by the local market.

All councillors voted unanimously to pass the plans including shop front modifications and erecting two signs.

Costa says it hopes to open the coffee shop in late November, bringing up to 10 new jobs to the area.

The Market Drayton Costa branch will add to those in Telford, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Oswestry.
