Visitors to the Secret Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms were invited to taste freshly pressed apple juice, find out more about the dozens of different apple varieties and taste some of the apple-themed delicacies cooked up by local people.

More than 100 varieties of apple were on display during the day and apple expert Dr John Savidge was kept busy during the day, identifying different types of apple brought in by visitors from their gardens and offering advice on growing the fruit trees.

In celebration of the apple fair, staff at the centre prepared an apple-themed Sunday lunch with pioneer apple cake for dessert.

Visitors were able to watch apple pressing demonstrations by Clunton Scrumpers and taste the finished product, and stalls sold a host of apple-flavoured cakes and treats.

A quiz was also available for visitors who felt they had learned enough about apples to test their knowledge.

Apple-themed celebrations were also held in Oswestry this weekend as the town held its own apple day on Saturday.

The event saw the market traders and Incredible Edible group fill the streets with stalls selling apple-based produce and other home-grown goodies.
