Man airlifted after 15ft fall from roof near Shrewsbury

A man who fell 15 feet from a roof near Shrewsbury today has been airlifted to hospital.

The 42-year-old could not feel or move his legs after hitting the concrete below.

He fell from the roof of a two-storey house in Winnington, today.

The man was airlifted to the major trauma centre at University Hospital North Staffordshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the a property near the Welsh border just before 9am.

An ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a Merit trauma doctor on board went to the scene.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "The 42-year-old man had reportedly fallen, approximately 15 feet, from the roof of a two-storey property before landing on to a concrete floor.

"Upon assessment, ambulance staff discovered that the man had lower back pain and was experiencing a loss of sensation and movement in both legs. Medics administered pain relief and anti-sickness drugs to the man before carefully immobilising him on to a neck collar and spinal board to prevent further movement.

"Once stable the man was airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire, a major trauma centre, for further treatment."
