Budding reporters have been given an insight into how to write and produce a newspaper.

A group of 20 girls from the First Admaston Brownies have visited the Shropshire Star's Ketley offices to learn more about writing articles and putting a newspaper together.

They toured the offices and put their questions to Shropshire Star editor Martin Wright about how to write a story, how to decide what goes into a newspaper and how stories are gathered.

Guider leader Lisa Mitchell – known as Brown Owl – said: "We were working towards our writers badges this term. We were visiting the Shropshire Star to get an idea of how a newspaper works in comparison to how a children's author might work, for example.

"The girls enjoyed themselves, asked a lot of questions and seemed to enjoy their visit and we will use the experience to write a little article of our own.

"We watched a presentation that the editor prepared for us and a presentation about the 50th anniversary of the Shropshire Star, followed by a tour around the offices.

"We were introduced to the sub editors and people on each of the desks.

"Then we had a look at the printing room and came home with a little goody bag."

Mr Wright added: "It was a pleasure to have them here, it is always great to meet with the Brownies and give them insight into the into local newspapers.

"They asked some very challenging questions and I am sure there are a few future reporters among them."
