Dwight Jeffrey-Shaw was seen to jump on to a man near to St Chad's Church in the town centre and hold him in a headlock.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Jeffrey-Shaw was jailed after he had admitted a charge of affray.

The court heard that another unidentified man had also been involved in the assault on the Asian victim on July 1.

Mr Timothy Harrington, prosecuting, said that the defendant and the other man were in a heated dispute at the time.

The court heard that Jeffrey-Shaw, of Bainbridge Green, Shrewsbury, was already serving a sentence for theft.

Miss Emma Lineton, for Jeffrey-Shaw, said his client was attempting to deal with a drug addiction.
