She has run more consecutive marathons than any other woman but Amy Hughes's feet have still barely had time to touch the ground.

For while most would be resting on their laurels, Amy has hot-footed it to London to take part in a major awards ceremony.

The 27-year-old, who has raised more than £35,000 for charity, will today learn if she has won Woman of the Year.

And next month she is in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Amy, of Cabin Lane, Oswestry, ran 53 marathons in 53 days over the summer to raise money for The Isabelle Lottie Foundation.

On Friday the record-breaking runner was guest of honour at a special event organised by friends and family at Wilsons Wine Bar at the Wynnstay Hotel, Oswestry.

"It is all a bit surreal," said Amy from her London hotel room.

"I don't know who nominated me either for the Woman of the Year awards or for Sports Personality of the Year but it is absolutely amazing.

"I know I have to get back to work and life will have to return to normal but this is all brilliant at the moment.

"I haven't had time to even think of what new challenges to do, but I am fully recovered from the marathons. I didn't lose any weight, in fact I put it on in the form of muscle and although my feet are still a bit sore they are healing all the time.

"I can't wait to find out if I have won at the Woman of the Year awards but even just being nominated is amazing. And to be up for Sports Personality of the Year is fantastic too."
