Disruption fear for trains as staff strike

Trains running through Shropshire are due to be disrupted because of a strike by conductors.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union is taking industrial action on Friday and Saturday over the recent dismissal of two conductors for continued failure to attend work.

This will affect Arriva Trains Wales services between Shrewsbury and Crewe from 12pm on Friday and 12pm on Saturday – although the train company today insisted insisted there will be minimum disruption.

Lynne Milligan, customer services director at Arriva Trains Wales said: "We are disappointed that the RMT has called to take industrial action and we regret that the situation has not been resolved. However we are putting plans in place to minimise passenger journey disruption especially on the busy Friday evening peak time commuter services. We are hoping to have all trains ready to resume services as normal as soon as the strike action is over at midday on Saturday."
