The fair was held in the town centre on Saturday, with lots of events throughout the day.

Live bands performed in front of the town's civic centre, and there were also workshops and a farmers' market.

Organiser Steve Chapman said: "It started off in a traditional manner with it being wet.

"But thankfully by 10am the sun came out and it turned into a fantastic event."

"It was bigger this year in terms of us taking over all of the high street.

"It's a very spontaneous day – we rely a lot on what people bring to the event.

"It's the type of event where everyone can put their differences aside and enjoy a relaxing day.

"It is a great example of what can be achieved.

"High streets up and down the country are struggling, but this isn't an event about profits and big businesses."

Peggy Mullock, Shropshire Councillor for Whitchurch, said: "It's been busier than normal. This year it is definitely bigger and better.

"There are more stalls, more music and generally more things going on for people to enjoy.

"I was here at 10am and it was very busy then. It has been chock-a-block all day.

"One of the great things is seeing lots of fresh faces. People have obviously heard about the event and travelled from further afield.

"Steve Chapman and his team have worked very hard and they should be applauded for that."

One of the visitors to the event was Paul Morrison, who lives in Whitchurch and was visiting it for the first time.

"We have heard about it from people who have visited in previous years, so we thought we would give it a go this year," he said.

"We have been very impressed. The quality of stalls, music and other entertainment has been really good.

"It is great to see the town busy like this and hopefully it will continue to grow.

"We will definitely think about coming again next year."
