It is just over a week since the Star launched the petition to urge the Government to put pressure on mobile phone networks to improve their poor coverage across the county.

And it has already been signed by 1,078 people who have jumped on board the campaign, which is backed by the county's MPs and will be handed to Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Sajid Javid.

It urges the Government to apply pressure on the main phone networks – EE, O2, Three and Vodafone – and demand an improved service to tackle the crisis.

Some Shropshire residents signing the petition have also left comments for the networks, highlighting their own experiences.

Andrew Hill, of Broseley, said: "Shropshire is not adequately covered by the networks and the time has come for the network providers and Ofcom to improve the situation. The network providers charge us the same as those in good coverage areas so we deserve better service."

Andrew May, of Marshbrook, said: "As a disabled person, a mobile phone is essential."

Shrewsbury resident Victoria Handbury-Madin commented: "I run a business and need my phone on the go. Trying to check emails or go online without wifi is always a problem. The fact that we are paying for a service we do not fully receive is also very frustrating."

Our campaign has the support of Shropshire Council, which has placed a copy of the petition in all of its libraries.

And you can also add your name to the list simply by logging on to the Shropshire Star or following the link from Shropshire Council's site.

EE has already responded to the campaign by launching an investigation.
