Marathon epic Amy Hughes finally puts her feet up at home in Shropshire

If anyone deserves to put her feet up and enjoy a nice cup of tea, it's Shropshire's record-breaking marathon woman, Amy Hughes.

The 26-year-old – who ran a marathon every day for 53 days – spent her first day back in her Oswestry home for almost eight weeks, catching up on thousands of messages of support.

During the duration of the challenge she has lived in a motorhome and slept each night in a different hotel.

Amy, who hails from West Felton but now lives in Cabin Lane, burst into tears as she hit the 26.2-mile mark in Manchester city centre on Saturday, having become the world record holder for the most consecutive marathons run in as many days.

But having enjoyed a couple of days' rest and a party on Saturday night – which she admitted had left her feeling more fragile than her running exploits – Amy hinted that her 53rd marathon was not the end of her adventures. But she would not say what her future plans were.

Amy also found herself featured in the national Glamour magazine as one of its heroes of the week. She said she was amazed to find herself featured alongside Hillary Clinton and actress Emma Watson.

"I can't believe the wonderful response there has been to 53:53," she said.

One thing Amy won't miss is her 53:53 marathon trainers which she admits don't smell their best. When she hits the streets again, she'll probably have a new pair.

Phew, it's time for a new pair of trainers for Amy Hughes
