A49 closed by crash near Whitchurch

A road been closed following a two-car collision near Whitchurch this morning.

The crash involving a Subaru and a Fiesta happened on the A49 in Prees Green at 6.30am.

The road was closed in both direction at the junction of the B5065.

The Midland Air Ambulance was also scrambled and landed at 7.45am. although it was not used and two people were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by road.

Lesley Williams, Force Duty Inspector at West Mercia Police, said: "The road is still closed following the collision between a Subaru and a Fiesta.

"The helicopter and the heli-medic were called.

"We're not sure about the injuries but at this moment in time but the neither driver was trapped and were out of their vehicles.

"The driver of the Fiesta did have facial injuries and the medics were checking for any internal injuries as a precaution."
