The woman was pulled from the river after falling from the A49 Sundorne link road bridge in Shrewsbury yesterday lunchtime.

Ambulance, police and fire crews were called to the river. Five fire engines from Shrewsbury and Wellington attended after people in the area called 999.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire control received calls reporting a water rescue in Shrewsbury. Fire appliances for Shrewsbury and Wellington were mobilised and the crews assisted the ambulance service with a casualty who had been rescued from the river area."

The woman was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be serious.

Emergency services also attended a drama on Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury in the early hours of yesterday.

The emergency services were called at 1.43am to a report classified as a water rescue.

Three fire engines were sent from Shrewsbury, including the water rescue unit.

However on arrival one man was assisted from bridge parapet by police and the fire service as nobody had entered the water.
