William Wright had threatened to injure himself because he believed his boyfriend was seeing someone else after reading messages on his phone.

A scuffle ensued and ended with Wright's boyfriend being wounded by the blade, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard.

Wright, 24, of Holyhead Road, Chirk, admitted one charge of unlawful wounding but was spared jail as Judge Robin Onions decided to suspend the 12- month sentence.

The court heard that on May 5 an ambulance was called to attend a property in York Street, Oswestry, after Wright's partner was injured in an argument.

Prosecutor Debbie Gould told Shrewsbury Crown Court that the victim said he did not want to involve police and blamed himself.

Wright was sentenced to a 12- month suspended sentence, with a supervision and alcohol treatment requirement. He was also ordered to pay £100 surcharge and £250 costs.
