A well-deserved rest is in order for Shropshire's Amy Hughes after she completed her 53rd marathon in as many days this afternoon.

The 26-year-old from Oswestry broke the World Record for the most marathons run in consecutive days when she finished her 53rd this afternoon in Manchester.

Whilst most marathon runners enjoy a break after their run Ms Hughes said that she will miss running somewhere new each day, adding "In a strange way it is sad that it's all ending as I put so much time and effort in and I enjoyed it so much."

The sports therapists efforts have so far seen her raise more than £20,000 of her £53,00 target for the Isabelle Lottie Foundation - a charity which was set up earlier this year for a friend's young child who is recovering from a brain tumour.

Ms Hughes set off on the first of her 1,389 miles on August 6 in Chester, and has worn her way through five pairs of trainers.

The previous World Record was Akinori Kusuda from Japan who ran 52 marathons between January 30 and March March 22 in 2009.
