Emergency services were called to the blaze at the semi-detached house in Winifred's Drive, in Donnington, on Friday at about 8.50pm.

Three fire engines attended from Telford Central and Wellington fire stations to the fire in the two-storey home.

The initial 999 call suggested there was a young woman still inside the house, but firefighters found no-one in the building.

The fire was on the first floor and was extinguished in about 40 minutes using breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

Ventilation of the smoke-filled house was carried out using a high pressure fan.

Fire investigators returned to the scene the next day with a police scenes of crime officer.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Fire investigators have attended the scene and the fire is being treated as suspicious. Police inquiries are continuing."
