Plans for 26 houses to be built on green fields in Shropshire village could be approved, despite concerns from neighbours about traffic issues.

It would see a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes, including affordable housing, erected at 1.2 hectares of land next to The Barns in Church Aston.

Planning officer Matthew Thomas has recommended councillors on Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee approve the plans when they meet in Telford on Wednesday next week.

The planning authority has received 15 letters of objection from neighbours, which say plans are "out of keeping with neighbouring property".

Another letter said there were concerns about highway safety.

"Visibility is poor and traffic speed is dangerous and an increase in traffic will only exacerbate these issues," the letter said. "It may be more appropriate to create the entrance directly on to the main Wellington Road itself and not from Dark Lane as planned.

"People already use the village as a rat tun to reach the bypass."

Another letter said: "Main services in the area already suffer from power cuts and gas levels during peak times."

Mr Thomas, however, said plans could be accommodated "without significant impact" on neighbouring residents or highway safety.

If approved, a section 106 agreement would see £84,611 put toward education facilities in the area.

The proposed development initially sought permission for 32 homes but the number was slashed following discussions between applicant David Williams and the council's planning department.
