More residents have spoken out about problems they are having with their mobile phone coverage across the county.

The further reaction was sparked after the Shropshire Star launched the campaign to improve reception in the region.

When EE eventually responded to the Star's calls about issues users were experiencing, a spokesman for the firm said: "We apologise for the ongoing signal issues which customers are experiencing in the Shropshire area.

"Our engineers are investigating the issue to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

The Get Us Connected campaign, which is backed by Shropshire Council leader Keith Barrow, is calling for a permanent solution to people's mobile woes.

Mr Barrow, will be raising the issue at a full council meeting next week and, along with the Shropshire Star, will be launching a petition calling for urgent Government action to tackle the crisis.

He said: "We hear that things are being fixed and upgraded but something is obviously not working.

"The response to my tweet about bad reception surprised me and it made me determined to do something and we realised the best way is to get as many people on side as we can."

Today, after reading yesterday's five-page Shropshire Star coverage, David Phillips, 49, of Warrensway in Woodside, near Telford, said he backed the campaign after struggling for months to make calls and send texts on EE.

He said: "I have had no end of it with them. I send a text and I have to stand outside and look a right idiot waving my phone around."

John Dixon, of the Olde Mitre Oak, in St John Street, Lowtown, Bridgnorth, said: "With Orange we had no real problems although signal was sometimes a little weak but since EE took over a number of months ago we've had no signal most of the day and sometimes one bar on signal for a couple of minutes every two hours."

Martyn Jones, a senior test analyst at Fujitsu whose office is in St James House, Central Park, Telford, said: "Every afternoon the mobile mast closest to our building seems to drop all data connections for two hours. Calls work fine but no data connections."

And Hannah Dowding wrote on Twitter: "It is truly rubbish in the Bridgnorth and Highley area. I end up using my landline for everything!"
