Dean Jones wrestled with her after they had been drinking together at her home before he hit her face.

Jones, 40, of Lon Glanyrafon, Vaynor, Newtown, admitted a charge of assault by beating when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court.

Mrs Helen Tench, prosecuting, said Jones had gone around to the woman's house for a drink on August 5.

She said: "They had been drinking and talking and then he had thrown her glass of drink against the wall. They began wrestling and he punched her to the face once.

"The police were called and Jones was arrested. Under interview he said they had been drinking and started arguing about what song to put on next, with Jones insisting it was his turn.

"He told officers they began wrestling on the floor and he admitted to putting his hand on her face."

Mr Paul Inns, for Jones, said his client had reacted to a comment about his parents, both of who are in poor health.

Sentencing was adjourned until October 14 to allow a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
