The 77-year-old man was crossing the street near Dickens coffee bar in South Crescent, Llandrindod Wells, when he was approached from behind and pushed, and then fell to the floor.

A struggle followed and the victim's wallet was taken.

The robbery took place on Tuesday at about 9pm and police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Inspector Iwan Jones said: "The elderly victim has been checked medically, and is not injured, but is understandably very shaken by this incident.

"The offender has been described as a white male, 25 to 30 years of age, of slim build, dark hair, and had a thin, clean shaven, tanned face and spoke with an English accent. He was wearing a dark, three quarter length coat with a hood that was up at the time.

"Enquiries and searches have been taking place, and house to house enquiries are continuing. We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, a person fitting the description, or anyone with any information which could assist to contact us immediately."

Anyone with information can contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
