Welshpool Town Council is waiting for its Designated Public Places Order (DPPO) to be approved.

Now Dyfed-Powys Police Commissioner Christopher Salmon has said he will work with the council on tackling anti-social behaviour.

Town councillor John Corfield said: "The recreation grounds clean-up often takes several hours each day, traders are being affected by drunks gathering and there is intimidation from such groups."

Maesydre Recreation Ground has also been targeted by vandals who have daubed graffiti on the grandstand and the cricket screens.

Mr Salmon said: "I will follow the progress of the DPPO application with interest. In the meantime, I will work with the police and the town council to tackle anti-social behaviour and I would like people to report any issues to local officers who will take action."

If the application is successful, it will prohibit the consumption of alcohol within the town centre, but will not affect pubs.
