And a former Big Brother contestant from Shropshire is hoping to make a small fortune after inventing an easy way find a new angle when taking a DIY photo.

Kris Donnelly, from Shrewsbury, gained notoriety in the 10th series of the warts-and-all reality show when it aired in 2009, since when he has gone on to forge a career as a model on both sides of the Atlantic.

Now, however, he is embarking on his latest venture with the Selfy Stick, a pole which allows smartphone users to take "selfies" from further away, allowing for a wider angle to take their snap.

The product, which is being sourced from China and is already popular with many tourists, is already sold at Selfridges and BHS, and through online retailer boohoo.com, as well as in smaller retailers.

And at the weekend it was also on the merchandise stand at the Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival as Mr Donnelly and his four Manchester-based business partners attempted to grow sales.

"We are in the age of the selfie," he said. "Everybody wants to take pictures, and this is great for doing group shots.

"I have taken it to festivals and the reception has been fantastic."

Last week he visited small retailers in Shrewsbury, where he grew up in Longden Road, in the hope of finding new stockists.

Brazil's legendary footballer Ronaldo was spotted on holiday last week taking pictures using a Selfy Stick.

But there were this week calls for the device to be banned from Old Trafford, after several fans were seen using them to get an unusual picture during the 4-0 thrashing by Manchester United of QPR.
