Richard Lewis, 44, pleaded not guilty but was convicted of three offences of rape by a jury at Mold Crown Court.

Lewis, of Pentre, Chirk, had admitted two charges of physical assault including one when he beat his victim with a stick.

Judge Nichlas Parry said the defendant had treated his victim as an object and in the assault, the farmer had beaten her "like a disobedient animal."

Judge Parry said that he took into account that Lewis was an extremely hard working man with a strong work ethic.

The defendant was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Oliver King, defending, said that there was clearly another side to his client, who had now lost everything.

Lewis was convicted of three rape charges and admitted two physical assault charges. He was cleared of other charges.
