Thieves removed the car parts from three vehicles in St John's Crescent, Newton Street and Maple Close, all in Craven Arms, across the course of one night.

It is thought the expensive exhaust parts are being targeted because of the high value of the precious metals they contain.

The latest spate took place overnight from August 28 to 29, and police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information.

PCSO Lisa Thomas, who covers Church Stretton and Craven Arms said: "On one night there were three vehicles that had the catalytic converter section of their exhaust removed, we believe with pipe cutters.

"They were all in the Craven Arms area."

Once removed the catalytic converters may be sold on for scrap, or even shipped abroad.

PCSO Thomas said: "We did have three other catalytic converter thefts back in May, over the bank holiday weekend, again in one night and in Craven Arms and Ludlow.

"It seems to happen in spates. They hit an area in just one night and that'll be it for a couple of months."

She said vehicles most at risk were those with high bases such as 4x4s, pick-up trucks, crew cab vans and motor homes.

"Anyone concerned can get cat locks fitted so the offenders can't get in the to catalytic converter section to remove it," she said.
