A fire crew from Wellington were called to the blaze at Rural Cottages in Eaton Constantine, near Cressage, at about 12.15am.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue service said: "There was one car set alight. We had a crew in attendance at about 12.30am and they used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to put the fire out."

The fire was extinguished by about 12.50am and crews left the scene at 1.30am after checking the vehicle was safe.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously, possibly with a metallic blue Peugeot, should call West Mercia Police on 101.

A second car was destroyed by fire earlier in the evening at Station Road, Pontesbury.

A crew from Minsterley were called at about 9.20pm to a saloon car that had caught fire. The blaze was extinguished at about 10.25pm.
