Mobile phone network EE has apologised after hundreds of customers were left unable to access the internet.

Some EE customers were unable to use mobile internet services for almost 24 hours after a cable to the firm's technical centre was accidentally cut.

Hundreds of customers across Shropshire and Mid Wales were unable to access the internet through their mobiles on Friday.

Adam Morris, 28, from Maesbury Marsh, near Oswestry, said the problem affected him for most of the day.

He said: "I was without mobile internet from Friday morning until I woke up on Saturday.

"I attempted to get online in locations across Shropshire throughout Friday because I needed to send an important e-mail but I was unable to.

"It sounds like a genuine accident at the EE headquarters, but it is yet another example of poor or no service from the company in this area."

Tom Edwards, 28, from Chirk, added: "I was unable to use my phone for getting on the internet all day on Friday. It is just not good enough.

"I wonder how they would react if I deducted some money from my bill."

Last week the firm was told to apologise to customers in south Shropshire over its handling of complaints about poor signal.

The news sparked an outpouring of frustration from others across the county about poor signal from Clun in the south to Whixall in the north, and even urban areas in Shrewsbury and Telford.

CISAS, an arbitrator appointed by Ofcom, found EE's lack of response to complaints about poor coverage was "in breach of its duty of customer care" after the issue was taken to to the industry regulator by councillors and angry residents in Bishop's Castle, Clun, Chirbury and Worthen.

A statement sent to customers following Friday's internet problem, said: "We apologise for customers affected by Friday's data access issue.

"A cable to our technical centre was cut accidentally and this caused problems for some of our customers trying to use data.

"Our engineers worked overnight to fix and restore service by 5.30am on Saturday. Thanks for bearing with us and sorry again for any inconvenience."
