Kate Moss donates handbag for Ludlow care home auction

It has become a tradition for the 40-year-old model and fashion designer to give a personal item to Hendra House in Ludlow to be auctioned off at its annual fete.

This year is no exception, with Moss donating what care home owner Vince Burmingham described as a purple crocodile-skin-style handbag, which will go under the hammer on September 6.

Last year Moss also donated a handbag, which fetched £260 for the home at its annual fete.

Owner Vince Burmingham said: "I'd rather not put a figure on it, but we hope the auction will be just as successful as last year.

"She's been donating items for about five or six years now, she's been very generous with her support.

"She has a mutual friend who has a relative who is a resident in the home," he said.

Kate Moss was discovered by the modelling world at the age of 14 and remains one of the world's most recognised modelling icons.

The fete will take place at Hendra House based in Sandpits Road, starting at 2pm. It will be opened by Marjorie Waite, a Ludlow resident who will be 100 years old later this year.

Moss's handbag will be sold off at the charity auction on the day, which last year raised a total of £2,091.

Other prizes going under the hammer this year include a stable tour and morning on the gallops, with breakfast for four people, at the Cotswold stables of Kim Bailey, a top National Hunt trainer.

There will also be a meal for two at The Parkway in Ludlow and an MOT voucher from Corve Bridge Garage up for grabs.

Mr Burmingham said he was delighted Kate Moss and so many others were supporting this year's event with such a variety of auction items.

The fete is open to everyone and proceeds will go to the residents' comfort fund.
