Engaged couple John Potter and Jackie Murphy celebrate their £1 million Lottery scratchcard win

Jackie Murphy, 61, and John Potter, 54, are due to tie the knot next month, and last Saturday they won the top prize on a National Lottery Millionaire 777s scratchcard.

Jackie was on her way home after a 12-hour care home shift when she stopped off at News Express in Shawbury to buy her £5 National Lottery Millionaire 777s card.

As she slowly revealed the numbers, she was unable to believe her eyes and had to ask the shop assistant to check them for her.

Care worker Jackie said: "I couldn't believe it when I found I had won. I went dizzy and had to get the girl to check it.

"Her smile got bigger and bigger before she told me it was worth £1 million. I just went weak at the knees."

The couple aren't planning to change their plans for the big day - but have now organised a free bar for their guests.

John and Jackie were unveiled as the lucky winners this morning at the Albrighton Hall Hotel, near Shrewsbury.

The couple join a host of other Shropshire lottery winners.

Earlier this month a syndicate of seven friends from Bridgnorth came forward with a winning missing lottery ticket and banked £1 million.

Camelot said a winning ticket had been bought in Shropshire for the draw on June 28, but up until recently no-one had come forward to claim it.

Syndicate leader and mother-of-four Lita Powney said she immediately recognised the winning numbers after reading an appeal for the winners to come forward in the Shropshire Star.

The seven strong syndicate of Mrs Powney, Jenny Jones, Angela Orpe, Josie Bromley, Joyce Hopkins and Janice Head have been playing the lottery since it started.

In July a grandmother from Myddle, near Wem, celebrated after a £25,000 postcode lottery win.

Caroline Butters, 66, scooped the prize after just two weeks of playing the People's Postcode Lottery.
