Woman punched in the face after couple row at Shrewsbury restaurant

A meal at a Shrewsbury restaurant took a turn for the worst when a couple began arguing before going outside where the woman was punched in the face.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the attack outside Carluccio's in the Square last night.

A 33-year-old woman sustained minor injuries after being punched in the face between 9.45pm and 10.15pm.

Police and ambulance crews arrived at the scene.

Abbey Hartley for West Mercia Police said: "An assault took place between 9.45pm and 10.15pm yesterday outside Carluccio's in The Square, Shrewsbury.

"There was a verbal altercation inside the restaurant which was carried on outside, resulting in a 33-year-old woman being assaulted.

"She was punched in the face, sustaining minor injuries. A 44-year-old man was arrested for actual bodily harm."

The man is still being questioned by police and no charges have yet been brought.
