Mid Wales head retires

Pupils and staff at a high school have said a sad farewell to their headteacher who retired at the end of the term.

David Evans has stepped down from his role at Caereinion High School after eight years in the post. He spent 27 years at the school during his 34 year career, and will be replaced in September by Sian Pugh.

Mr Evans started his teaching career at Welshpool High School in 1980, and became the head of the Welsh department in 1982.

In 1987 he moved to Caereinion High School in the same role and went on to become the deputy headteacher, and then headteacher in 2006.

Mr Evans said: "I am extremely proud and privileged to have taught at such a fantastic school. I am indebted to the staff, governors, pupils and parents of Caereinion High School for their tremendous support and co-operation over the years.

"I will leave with treasured memories and would like to wish Sian Pugh, my successor, all the very best for the future."

Mr Evans wasn't the only teacher to bid a fond farewell to the pupils at the end of term as three other teachers are also preparing for retirement.

"Ann Bowen, Llinos Evans, and Jane Evans have all been long serving teachers at Caereinion High School. The school is most grateful to them for being so professional, dedicated and hard working. We all wish them a well deserved retirement," Mr Evans said.

The school also said goodbye to three learning support assistants - Caroline Lloyd, Barbara Jones and Janet Eagles - who retiring from Ysgol Caereinion High School at the end of the year. The school wish to thank them for their hard work and many years of service. Best wishes are being sent to them all for the future.
