Toby was just one when he first arrived at Hilbrae Kennels in 2003.

Now, at the age of 12, staff at Hilbrae are appealing for help in finding him a loving home.

The black collie is causing a storm on social media with more than 2,500 followers on Twitter trying to find him a loving, permanent home.

Marty Burrell, from the kennels at Cold Hatton, said Toby is still an active dog who loves to play.

She said: "He has been at Hilbrae for 11 years, which is far too long, I'm sure you'll agree.

"A home in the Telford area would be preferable."

Though he is a lovable and friendly dog, Toby is terrified of going in cars, which makes rehoming him too far away from the kennels a challenge.

Toby would benefit from a quiet home of adults, or with grown-up children.

His time in kennels have taken their toll and Toby would also be looking for a patient owner who would be willing to take time to help him adjust.

Toby is following in the footsteps of Staffordshire Bull Terrier Bulley, who spend nine years at the kennels before being adopted to begin a new life in America.

Bulley, who is now 13, has also won the Rehomed Dog World Cup, donating his £5,000 prize money to Hilbrae, which had been his home for so long.

Bulley was in danger of becoming a permanent resident at Hilbrae Pets Hotel and Stray Kennels in Cold Hatton.

But after his plight was publicised in the Shropshire Star, on TV and radio he gained thousands of friends and eventually found new owners.

Twitter and Facebook pages set up in his name now have thousands of followers.

After Bulley left Hilbrae, his blog was taken up by fellow Staffies Salt and Pepper, who were also able to find permanent homes.
