A man and a woman were hurt when three cars crashed, blocking the A458 Welshpool Road at Bicton.

One of the cars ended up on its roof, and the road was closed between Shrewsbury and Welshpool for around three hours.

It caused long delays for traffic in the area, with motorists facing diversions away from the scene.

The vehicles were badly damaged in the accident but all those involved managed to escape without serious injury.

A man in his 50s was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with bleeding from his ear.

Abi Hartley, of West Mercia Police, said the accident on the A458 happened at about 1.40pm.

She said the road was closed until about 4pm to allow emergency services to help the injured and for the scene to be cleared of debris.

She added: "The accident involved a blue Mazda, a blue Ford Titanium and a black Nissan, one of which ended up on its roof. Two people suffered head injuries but neither are believed to be life threatening."

Jamie Arrowsmith at West Midland Ambulance Service said two paramedic teams attended the scene and two patients were taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where they were treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

West Mercia Police today appealed for any witnesses to call them on the non-emergency number 101 with information.
