About 300 new jobs will be created at Faccenda's Hortonwood plant as part of a 100,000 sq ft expansion of the factory to add to the existing 550-strong workforce. It is hoped a further 150 jobs would be created over the next few years, taking the number of staff employed to the 1,000 mark.

The extended factory is expected to come into operation in early 2015, which bosses say would increase production by up to 30 per cent.

A spokesman for Faccenda said: "Working is continuing on a new highly advanced factory at our Hortonwood site as part of Faccenda Foods' ambitious growth strategy.

"This development brings inward investment in manufacturing to Telford and secures a significant workforce in the region

"It signals a step change in our capability to satisfy our customer's requirements for innovative fresh and convenience food solutions."

The spokesman said the expanded Telford site will allow Faccenda to deliver its products faster and more effectively - making the way for further growth of the business in terms of the volume of products it can produce and the diversity of products it will be able to provide.

"The site will initially employ approximately 850 people but could rise to as many as 1,000 people, in future," said Mr Woods. "This consolidates Faccenda's position as a key local employer of choice, supported by our strong people proposition on pay and also great employee facilities which are an important part of the new development."

He added the planned expansion of the business showed how Telford was becoming more and more attractive as a location to businesses the manufacturing industry.

He said: "This investment has been made with the full support and assistance of the local authority and demonstrates the attractions for manufacturing businesses of the Telford area."
