Driver suffers head injury in Shifnal motorway crash

A man in his 30s suffered a head injury after a crash which closed a motorway for more than six hours.

The man was injured after a vehicle the central reservation on the M54 at junction four near Shifnal.

The road was closed for more than six hours after the car overturned on the eastbound carriageway.

Emergency services were called out at about 12.40am.

Firefighters had to cut the driver out of the car using Holmatro equipment and he was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Three appliances and the rescue tender from Telford Central were mobilised to an incident involving one car which had overturned after a collision with road furniture."

The eastbound carriageway was closed between junctions 3 and 4 while the carriageway was cleared, and the road reopened at 7am.
