Shropshire pupils to follow in the footsteps of peers from past

They'll be studying like it was 1675 - youngsters at one village school will be following in the footsteps of their peers from past centuries when they return from their summer holidays.

Pupils at Chirbury Primary School will be able to access parts of an old black and white framed building which have been out of bounds for the past half a century.

The building, which was built to form part of the school in the late 17th century, has been a private home for the past 50 years but will be available for use by the school again from September.

The re-opening of the building will also be a poignant moment for the school's longest-serving governor John Jerman, who went to school in the building as did his father and grandfather before him.

Work will now be carried out by villagers - many of who attended the school or have sent their children there - over the summer holidays to restore the building before the autumn term starts in September.
