Police chase ends in Shrewsbury

A 14-mile police chase following a fight ended with a 22-year-old man being arrested for affray.

Visitors to Cineworld in Shrewsbury were bemused as a dark car raced in to the car park swiftly followed by a police car.

According to eyewitnesses the man then jumped out of the vehicle and ran through woodland towards Rea Brook.

He was later arrested and charged with affray but was released on police bail while further investigations are carried out.

An eyewitness who was attending Cineworld, on Old Potts Way with her sons, said: "I was at Cineworld in Shrewsbury on Saturday about 2.45pm when there was a police chase which ended with a man in a dark car speeding through the car park and then legging it off through woodland. At the time it wasn't clear if they caught him."

Sarah-Jayne Lynch, operational communications assistant with West Mercia Police said: "A 22-year-old man was arrested for affray and released on bail. We are not appealing for any other suspects.

"The fight occurred outside Beaumont Court in Church Stretton at around 2.30pm on Saturday and he was arrested following a pursuit which ended in Shrewsbury at approximately 2.45pm."
