Two motorcyclists in their 70s seriously injured in South Shropshire crash

Two motorcyclists in their 70s have been seriously injured after a collision with a van on a country road near a Shropshire town.

The accident happened on the A4117 between Cleobury Mortimer and Hopton Wafers at about 12.30pm today near the Common Lane junction.

One man was flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with a suspected broken pelvis, the other was taken by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with a suspected broken leg.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said Midlands Air Ambulance, two paramedics in rapid response vehicles and an ambulance crew were sent to the scene.

"There were two patients, one had bruising an injury to his wrist and ankle and a suspected broken leg. The other one had more serious injuries, a suspected fractured pelvis and a leg wound. He appears to have initially been knocked unconscious."

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said a crew from Cleobury Mortimer was called to assist paramedics and police, and used an environmental pack and one hose reel jet to clean up the scene.
