Amy Hughes, 26, of West Felton, near Oswestry, is already a veteran of several marathons and has completed the London event six times.

The sports therapist is in training to take on the 1,400-mile challenge and says as long as she prepares well, she is confident of completing all the consecutive marathons.

And she hopes to raise £53,000 for the Isabelle Lottie Foundation, a charity set up for three-year-old Wrexham girl Izzy Wynne who has battled a rare childhood cancer and has family members in the Oswestry area.

It was set up by Izzy's parents Gareth and Rebecca Wynne after the youngster was diagnosed with medulloblastoma – a type of brain tumour, which mainly affects children between the ages of three and eight.

Amy, a former pupil at West Felton Primary and The Corbet School, got involved in because she knows some of Izzy's family.

She said: "A lot of my family and friends think I am mad but I know my body and as long as I prepare right and get the right nutrition, I know I can do this."

If Amy completes her challenge she will have beaten the previous female record of 13. It starts on August 6 in Manchester.
