A former quarry could be turned into about 120 homes under plans revealed today.

An outline planning application is being prepared for the former Tadgedale Quarry in Loggerheads, near Market Drayton.

It will involve a mix of three to five-bedroom homes for the open market and a number of affordable properties.

Developers Renew Land Developments are holding a public consultation on the plans next week.

Computer-generated images showing how the site will look will also be on show at the meeting, which will take place at the quarry on Mucklestone Road next Tuesday, from 5pm to 8pm.

The site has reportedly been unpopular with neighbouring residents for some time due to its use as a storage yard for heavy plant and machinery.

The current owners trade in the equipment, holding regular auctions in nearby Prees, near Whitchurch.

It is common to see large transportation vehicles frequenting the site.

Lee Dawkin, managing director of Renew, said he wanted to set the record straight about his company's intentions.

"Our approach is to be open and transparent and in doing so, we hope we can allay any fears that the local residents may have," he said.Ours is a genuine housing scheme that has no association with the landowner beyond purchasing his land for our development.

"At the meeting we will demonstrate that our scheme will substantially enhance the local area and not denigrate it.

"We will happily share information with the attendees that informs the planning application."

Renew Land Developments said the site would help to address a shortfall in housing land.

Mr Dawkin added: "We know that there is a need for new homes to be built in Loggerheads. We also know that there is a shortage of suitable land available on which to build.

"The added bonus is that we can transform an unsightly and unpopular area into a well-needed housing development that will be environmentally well managed."
