He's used to treating the injuries of footballers, but Chris Skitt might soon need a little TLC himself after deciding to get on his bike for charity.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s physiotherapist Chris Skitt is ready to ride in support of the Prostate Cancer campaign

The Shrewsbury Town physio will be representing the club in a bid to raise money for prostate cancer as part of a national campaign, and is gearing up to cycle from London to Amsterdam.

He will be riding alongside former England footballer Luther Blissett in June and the ride is for a cause close to his heart.

Mr Skitt said: "The Prostate Cancer campaign is very important to me as my granddad suffered from the disease. Like so many families, we have seen the effects at first hand.

"As a physio working with sports people, I value the advice given by professionals about preventing injury and illness rather than reacting to its effects, though."

Mr Skitt will ride for 85 miles in the UK and then for a further 65 miles after a ferry crossing.

But, far from feeling daunted about the challenge, he hopes the gruelling ride will enable him to make a difference.

He said: "I am looking forward to the ride to Amsterdam and would encourage others to join the team."

He hopes for more sponsorship. A collection at an away game raised more than £800. Visit www.justgiving.com/chris-skitt
