The driver and passenger were threatened with a knife and what appeared to be a handgun as they sat in a black VW Golf in Wellington.

Two men wearing hooded tops approached the car which was parked in a taxi bay at the bus station in The Parade at about 10.15pm last night.

The thieves opened the driver's door and threatened him, showing him a knife and what appeared to be the handle of a hand gun.

They ordered the men to get out of the car and one of the men grabbed the key.

The driver and passenger managed to escape unhurt and ran towards the town centre.

Police are now trying to trace the vehicle, registration number CK58 XAL, which was driven off in the direction of Victoria Road.

Detective Inspector Billy Scott for West Mercia Police said: "One of the offenders threatened the driver and showed what appeared to be the handle of a handgun. A knife was also displayed.

"The driver was ordered out of the vehicle and as the offender grabbed the ignition keys, the driver and his passenger managed to run off towards the town centre.

"I am anxious to trace this vehicle which is worth about £10,000 and appealing for any information concerning its current whereabouts.

"I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area of The Parade at around 10.15pm last night who might have seen this incident or the two suspects approaching the Golf car."

One man is described as Asian, of large build, aged around 28 to 30, with facial stubble. He was wearing a black knitted hoody top and black tracksuit bottoms.

His accomplice is reported to be tall and of skinny build, wearing a dark coloured plain tracksuit with a hood.
