"We took her to the vets where she had a scan and it showed a tumour. The vet said she had operated on tumours like this but they always come back. Pepper could go on for months or she could suddenly go critical and be very poorly."

Marty said they are keen for Pepper to spend her remaining time in a loving home, but because of her illness are being very careful about where she is sent.

She said: "It needs to be a home without children or other pets and where someone is home a lot of the time to keep an eye on her.

"To make everything a bit easier, we have offered to pay for her medical bills, so it is just someone who will let her see her last days out with Salt."
