Raider Adam Morris and driver Richard Inman stole goods worth more than £50,000 after carefully selecting their targets, many of whom were elderly and living alone, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard.

Miss Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, said in one raid, on a home in Victoria Road, Bridgnorth, a Mercedes Sprinter van worth £17,000 was taken from the driveway. It contained £5,000 of tools and other items and the pair also broke into the house to steal jewellery worth £7,000 and electrical items valued at £1,000.

"The complete exact value of what was taken is not known," Miss Bradley said. "But it is thought to be well in excess of £50,000.

Morris, 31, of Mount Road, Wordsley, Stourbridge, and Inman, 24, of The Brambles, Pedmore, Stourbridge, both admitted 13 charges of conspiring to burgle between November 2012 and January 2013. They pleaded guilty at a previous hearing and appeared at court yesterday for sentencing.

The Shropshire raids started on November 20, 2012, with two break-ins on the same day in Love Lane, Bridgnorth, and another home in the town.

The final four homes were all in Shropshire on December 21, 2012.

Judge Peter Barrie jailed Morris for five years and Inman for two years and eight months.
