Jerry the clown's not jolly after losing shoe in Telford

They are normally the happiest people in the circus, with permanent smiles painted on their faces.

But Jerry the Clown is hoppy rather than happy after one of his shoes fell out of his caravan as the Peter Jolly Circus made its way to Telford.

The tears of the clown started to fall after the travelling company parked up in Sutton Hill and he realised one of his favourite pairs of shoes had been lost on the way. Circus funnyman Kyle Samuel, 18, who plays Jerry said the loss is no laughing matter.

Mr Samuel only ran away with the circus earlier this year, and had put his best pair of shoes in the belly box of his caravan as the group made their way from Ludlow Football Club on Bromfield Road to the Sutton Hill car boot sale site off the A442 at the Brockton roundabout on Monday, ready for their upcoming shows.

He said: "We put it in there to travel to the ground and when I opened up I found one had gone.

"It has to be somewhere so I hope someone can find it."

Fortunately, the show can go on, as Mr Samuel does have a second pair, but he said it won't be quite the same. "I have a back-up pair but those are the best because they're broken in and everything." said Mr Samuel.

"The best thing is for you to look great in the circus, and have everything top-notch. I'll have to fight on – hopefully it will be okay."

The circus began its shows at Sutton Hill yesterday and will be hosting nightly performances until April 21.
