The A53 was blocked into last night after the HGV, belonging to Timmins Transport, of Much Wenlock, caught fire at the Tern Hill roundabout, near Market Drayton, after the engine overheated.

The driver escaped from the cab unharmed, but the vehicle was destroyed in the blazer at about 2pm.

Fire crews from Market Drayton and Hodnet battled the blaze. Police closed the road between Lostford Lane and the A41, with traffic backing up in all directions.

Amateur photographer Mr Roberts, 62, lives next door to Ternhill Furniture where the burning lorry came to a stop and captured what he saw on camera.

Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "It was a Scania lorry carrying stone. It caught fire near the Tern Hill Hall Hotel. Apparently a wheel came off the lorry, but nobody was hurt."
