Shropshire MP congratulates villagers as pub reopens

Ludlow MP Philip Dunne has congratulated villagers in Neenton for their hard work in saving their pub from the bulldozer.

The Pheasant Inn, in the village which lies between Ludlow and Bridgnorth, is being restored and is set to re-open in the summer.

The pub has been shut since 2006 after the last owners retired and it became an eyesore over the years.

But locals, left without a place to meet and socialise, were determined to save it and formed Neenton Community Society with the goal of reopening the pub as a community-owned asset.

After a great deal of effort, building work began in mid-February, with the aim of reopening the pub in late July.

Mr Dunne said: "I am delighted that this group of local individuals, who clearly care deeply about this pub, have managed to work together and come up with a plan to reopen The Pheasant Inn.

"This is a great example of how local people can invest in the future of their area and ensure that assets are there for the community to enjoy for years to come.

"I congratulate those who have been involved with this project and look forward to seeing the pub reopen as a community asset in the summer."

Neenton Community Society has secured over two-thirds of the money needed to refurbish, staff, stock and re-launch the Pheasant, and are working hard to raise the remaining funds required.

They are now offering community shares in the society, in an effort to raise £150,000 from both locals and those who live further afield but who support the aims of the society.
