Officers are treating the report as a suspicious incident and said it involved a seven-year-old girl who said she was followed by a man in Hammonds Place, Gobowen, at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "The girl was not directly approached and nothing was said to her but she felt that the man was following her.

"It is being treated as a suspicious incident but there may be an innocent explanation.

"Police have appealed for the man to come forward or for any information which might assist.

"The man was described as white, aged 50 to 60, with short brown hair, thin and tall, and wearing a long black coat, blue jeans and black trainers."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oswestry police station on the non-emergency 101 number.
