Ludlow woman dumped on her birthday hit bottle before driving into police van

A Ludlow woman who was dumped by her boyfriend on her birthday hit the bottle before getting behind the wheel and driving head-on into a police van, a court heard.

Gemma Milne, 24, was spotted in her Ford Fiesta by officers on foot in Ludlow town centre just after midnight on February 22 this year, Telford Magistrates Court heard.

Miss Katie Price, prosecuting, said: "She was confronted by a police van, where officers say she looked straight at them before driving directly into the front of the van."

Milne, of The Wildings was arrested and a breath test revealed 98 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Milne admitted drink driving and driving without due care and attention.

Representing herself, she said: "I did get dumped on my birthday, I don't know whether that counts as mitigation or not."

Magistrates banned Milne from driving for two years when she appeared at court yesterday. She was also ordered to pay a fine of £300, court costs of £85 and a government victim surcharge of £30.
