Police believe Kenneth Wallington from Cheshire bedded down for the night after getting lost in the Glyn Ceiriog Valley on Wednesday night.

Members of the North East Wales Search and Rescue Team found the pensioner as he was making his way back to his car yesterday morning.

North Wales Police launched the search after becoming worried about Mr Wallington's whereabouts.

His Ford Fiesta car was found in a car park near to the Hand Hotel in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog.

Searches involving police, mountain rescue teams and the police helicopter were conducted on Wednesday and continued yesterday morning until he was spotted by the rescuers.

Police spokesman Kevin Evans said today: "North Wales Police would like to thank all agencies involved in the search."
