The annual show in Chirk, organised by the Chirk Pantoholics Group, has been running the town for 21 years.

This year's show is the traditional Babes in the Wood pantomime, which will open on Tuesday at Chirk Parish Hall, Holyhead Road.

Pat Owens, chairwoman of Chirk Pantoholics, said: "We've had a slow start to ticket sales but that's the same every year. Usually in the last week everyone panics that they haven't got their tickets and we sell really well."

Mrs Owens said the cast, which ranges from children to retired people, has been working hard to perfect the show ready for opening night.

"Rehearsals are going well. It's Babes in the Wood and we've got Robin Hood and his Merry Men in the story as well," she said.

"There are a lot of people in the cast this year. In the dancing groups alone there's 26, and there's almost 40 in the full cast."

Performances will take place from Tuesday to Saturday March 1 at 7pm each night, with an extra 2pm matinee performance on the final day.

Tickets are £5 for the evening performances and £4 for the matinee, and are available from Daisy Chain florist and Fine Things in Chirk, or from Mrs Owens on (01691) 777231.
